Bringing BELIEVE Kathryn the Grape Songs for Kids of All Ages to life was really significant for me on a personal level. If you have been following along with me, you know that writing song lyrics and channeling melodies has been something that I’ve done since I was a little girl. Some of the most joyful, soul-shining moments of my childhood were spent in the sanctuary of my room singing my songs for the audience of dolls lined up on my twin bed. I share about this childhood passion in my TEDx talk and how my passionate spark was dimmed for a long time until I discovered how to ignite it again, and then started to shine my natural light into the world.
As that spark turned into a vibrant light with the realization of the Kathryn the Grape music, I decided to make the big whopper of a childhood dream come true by writing and recording my first solo album as Kathryn Cloward the woman, versus my illustrated likeness. And this time around, I’m not going to chicken out on singing lead as I did with BELIEVE. I will be putting on my big girl boots and rockin’ it out just like I did for my dolls 30+ years ago, and on and off throughout my life (depending on how much courage I was armed with at the time). My writing partner, Rich, and I are seven songs into my 11 song album, and I am working on getting pitch perfect (or as close to pitch perfect as possible) with my talented vocal coaches, Eve and Mattie. Needless to say, I am pretty darn excited!
In all of the life lessons that I hope to be revealing to my son through living and leading by example, I hope that he thoroughly absorbs the understanding that he can do whatever he wants to do and become whatever he want to become as long as he is willing to do the hard work, persevere, trust what is being revealed to him, and…. BELIEVE it to be true!
But, back to the entire reason I started writing this blog post in the first place…
BELIEVE Kathryn the Grape Songs for Kids of All Ages was released one year ago and it has already received GOLD recognition through the Mom’s Choice Awards. I often hear from parents about how much their children love listening to the CD and singing along to the songs in their car and at home. Naturally, I love hearing feedback like that! And parents usually follow up that feedback with a bit of laughter because they always want to tell me how much they love the songs too considering they are listening to the songs over and over… and over again along with their kids.
When Astra and I sat down to discuss the vision I had for the album, we talked about how important is was to both of us to make sure the music was appealing to parents too. In fact, a number of happy parents have said that our songs sound like music they hear on the radio. Yes! Mission accomplished!
I was recently introduced to Sara Schairer, the founder of Compassion It, and in receiving her feedback about the Kathryn the Grape music, she decided to send in a review for us to share with others. By the way, Sara is one of the “love” it conversations because she is listening to the CD on the 30 minute ride to and from school with her daughter every day. We enjoyed a good chuckle together as she rattled off all of the lyrics that she now knows by heart. Smiles!
Here is what Sara has to say about BELIEVE:
“It brings joy to my heart to hear my six-year-old daughter sing, ‘I am magical, I am unique, there is no one else like me.’ Kathryn the Grape’s songs are not only catchy and joyful, but they are teaching my daughter valuable tools that she will carry with her each day. Hannah requests this CD each time we’re in the car, and I’m thankful that the songs appeal to grownups’ ears, as well!” ~ Sara J. Schairer, Founder of Compassion It
